What's In YOUR Hangar? Pt.1

Interesting question, right?

So one of my corpmates - Orakkus - asked this question of his EvE character, and of course it got the thoughts flowing.  What DO I have in my hangar(s)?

Quite a bit, as it turns out - especially if I look at this from the perspective of two main characters.

My main player-vs-player character does receive the lions' share of my attention, so we'll start with him.

YARRRRRRRRRRR! I say ...

For the second time in my life, I have gone full-on pirate.

Usually, in my persona as the Modeller, I am about building things.  Primarily miniature starships, mecha, and the like; but that also extends to my tenure in the EvE Online, where on one of my characters I build virtual starships of various sorts stretching from small frigates on up to massive dreadnaughts.  Even though I cannot watch that process in action, unlike a model coming together on my workbench, there is still that which is engrossing about the process.  About taking all different sorts of materials, and using one’s skills to put that together in something … neat.  The creative process fully at work.

However, there is another side to things, as always.  The opposite side of the creation coin is, of course, destruction.  As this is where my tenure in EvE has … well, for lack of a better image, sprouted its’ devil’s horns and bloomed into full malevolence in a way it never did as a stupid kid in my far youth.

Cui Bono?

Latin can be such a marvelously expressive language.

In proper Oxfordian english, "to whom (is the) benefit"?  In just a few - in this case two - words, it expresses a whole range of thought:  Who is benefiting from something?  Is it legitimate, or is there something we should be considering in addition?  Something perhaps not so ... good?

I've been playing the internet spaceships MMO EvE Online since late September 2007, or about a month less than my good friend and prolific blogger (specifically on the topic of EvE) Dan "Corelin" Zelman.  Like myself, Dan is a gamer of long standing (not quite so long as me - he's younger - but nonetheless).  We had long shared a hobby of several miniatures-based tabletop games - Babylon 5 Wars, Battletech, Warhammer 40K, and others - although that certainly does not fully define our friendship, as neither does EvE.

Sometimes, All You Can Say Is Oy!

Ah, a reason to blog on the personal side, again.
It has been, to say the least, an interesting past 36 hours, with the promise of a little more to come.
Have you ever had your car vandalized or broken into? I have. Three times, now, in fact. Two of them are ancient history, and mostly forgotten – although the second does inform my opinion of folks who like to break into places and steal stuff … and that’s why if I ever find one, they’ll be lucky if they wake up in a hospital. (I’ll let my readership chew over just what that means.)
However, this is the first time I’ve ever had anyone tinker maliciously with the mechanical workings of my car. I’ll put this as baldly as my skull is – I don’t think they were trying to blow me up (and my mechanic says this wouldn’t have done) … but I don’t know they weren’t, either. How about that for a thought to have to sleep on ...
A little background, first, to set the stage …

Finally Back at the Office!

Lord A'mighty, I hate illnesses!

This has been almost as protracted an illness as I've had. Started about two weeks ago - I guess I first noticed symptoms ... what, last Tuesday, 5/8? - and it almost completely ruined my weekend at Recon.

In retrospect - hell, even in pre-spect, if that's a word - it wasn't a good idea going to Orlando. But I mean, geeez, I thought it was only a cold! Like I almost always get once a year. Throw down some regular meds and a bunch of aspirin, and things are fine, right? Sucking on throat lozenges takes care of the rest. Usually.

I Knew Better, But ...

I knew it was a bad idea to bowl today, but that didn't stop me from being stupid. The argument from my teammates was better to have me than not, because I have been generally rolling a good 20 points or so above my average ... on league night, which is Friday night. Since we knew I wouldn't be able to be there this upcoming Friday night because of Via de Cristo, since we were facing a very close competitor in the top five standings (like we were), and since blinding me means giving up 10 points of my score each game (i.e. I'd automatically post a 141 - or ten below whatever my average is at the moment), they just didn't want that. Don't blame 'em terribly, espcially after I posted games of 186, 164 and 200 this past Friday (550 series, my best yet). BUT ...

Just a First Shot in the Dark ...

Well, I have a friend who's got a blog I wanted to post to, to help the boy buck up. Just decided to join the Army, he did, and it's a way to contact him. Perhaps - probably? - the only. And to do that I had to create my own account, and get my own blog. So ... here it is. We'll have to see where it goes from here. No telling - probably a hobby effort, but you never know - we'll just have to see. Lord knows we have possibilities.

Peace,
Tracy "tMmM!" Bovee
